Rocky Mountain & Santa Fe
RAILFAN THE SANTA FE
Stand next to the tracks as the Super Chief, Chief, El Capitan, Grand Canyon and Fast Mail stop at the historic mission style Raton Depot. Travel back in time to the glory days of passenger railroading circa 1958. Chase the regional 'Red Ball' freights, coal drags, work trains and extra's as they tackle the 3% plus grades. Photograph "F" units in both Warbonnet and Freight paint schemes and Zebra Striped Alco's in helper service over Raton Pass.
Turn the clock back for mainline and helper steam operation or forward to the future of 2nd & 3rd generation diesel power to span the generations of railroad men who tamed the mountain. Current operations on Raton Pass have been limited in recent years with only two regional freights and two daily Amtrak trains. Please contact me if you have an interest in the ATSF or Raton Pass or if you have ever worked on the mountain. I also have information on the SLRM&P from Raton through Cimarron to Ute Park and the Cimarron & Northwestern logging railroad.
The RMSF is designed to recreate
the prototype trains and schedule. Resources for timetables, topo maps, track
plans, equipment and structures are available on this site. Additional resources
